Auction Proceeds - Where will the auction money go?

The proceeds of the auction will be invested in the most important component of your child’s education – their teachers. We all know that inspired teachers make learning come alive for children. There is no substitute for high-quality professional development opportunities in giving teachers exciting new concepts to try in the classroom and ensuring that they stay passionately engaged and committed to their profession. Funds raised by the auction will support professional development for all teachers with a special emphasis on two groundbreaking programs – Harvard ProjectZero and Reggio Emilia.

Harvard Project Zero -- BMS will be unique once again in sending 12 teachers from all levels of the school to attend a week-long intensive seminar at Harvard's Project Zero Summer Teacher Institute. Teachers examine what true understanding is and how it develops in children at different ages. The program is designed to help teachers create classrooms, instructional materials, and out-of-school learning environments that address the challenges our children will face in a rapidly changing world.

Reggio Emilia -- This groundbreaking program, hailed by Newsweek in 1991 for creating the best preschools in the world, deeply honors and respects children for their potential, capabilities, and humanity. As part of the Innovative Teacher Project, BMS teachers will visit preschool programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and participate in lectures and discussions about this special approach to early childhood education. Reggio Emilia educators encourage others to understand their own values regarding childhood, education, and community, and through this process, ensure that the learning and relationships of children, teachers, and parents within the school community reflect shared values.
